In memoriam, Founder and Chairman
As a Founder of Signature, Anne worked tirelessly to create an enterprise designed to leverage the best ideas on behalf of clients. In addition to leading the firm and working with clients, Anne was a recognized leader in the Hampton Roads business community. During her career, she was honored, nationally and across Virginia, as an outstanding legal professional and as an accomplished advisor to families of wealth. Anne passed away on July 24, 2018. She is survived by her husband, two sons, and three grandchildren.
Always active in the business community in Hampton Roads, Anne served on the board of numerous non-profit institutions. She was a former Rector of the Board of Visitors of Eastern Virginia Medical School and a former Rector of the Board of Visitors of Old Dominion University. She was a Trustee and Chair of the Investment Committee at Virginia Wesleyan College, a Trustee of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, a Trustee of ACCESS College Foundation, a Trustee of the ODU Educational Foundation and a member of the Wellesley College Business Leadership Council. In 2011 Anne received the Citizen Lawyer award from the William & Mary School of Law and the Barron F. Black Community Builder Award from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. Anne also was recognized in 2011 by LEAD Hampton Roads with its Visionary Award for business leaders. In 2018, she was awarded the T.C. Clarke Medallion from the College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business for leadership in the business community.
Anne was a graduate of Wellesley College and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary.
